Getting Ready for a Mardi Gra Parade....
My greatest inspirations come from my god daughter...who is 4 and a half (very important at this age)! She is going to be in a Mardi Gra parade this weekend with her school...so we made cardboard butterfly wings for her and her little sister to wear in the parade! She painted one side, and I painted the other side!
Building creative minds....
I made this chalkboard that entertains 3 year old Eila for hours! Great for indoor drawing days when it is too cold to go outside and draw! The best part is you can hang your artwork on the wall afterwards! Contact me if you are interested in a unique chalkboard!
WEST Texas.....
This January (2011)....I had the delight of heading out to West Texas to Marfa for an inspirational/creative week with two of my favorite female artist, Danielle Dawley (photographer - www.dmonstrativestudios.com) and Ashley Chiles (film maker - current film project is The Texas Huntress - www.texashuntress.com). Happy 2011....
I went to a Dr. Suess Christmas Party this year.....and these were the last minute costumes thrown together....I went as Thing 1 from The Cat in the Hat!
Lights, Boots, Action......
I took a string of lights and wrote the word LOVE on my wall in the living room....and thought I'd share the idea. As it is nice....being the first thing people see when they walk in!
COSTUMES I made...
I love projects that build on the imagination! I made a tu-tu, a cape, lion mask, rabbit mask, bird mask, 3 king/queen reversible crowns, etc. The crowns were a big hit! If you like my tu-tu's, they can be purchased at Nairobi's Knapsack in Brooklyn www.nairobisknapsack.com (at the store only for now).
My Grandmother's 92nd Birthday
My Grandmother turned 92 (in Oct 2008) and she still writes me letters on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I have always loved that about her! I LOVE the world wide web, but it is the lose of the art of letter writing. My Grandmother immediatly knows my letters, because I always draw her something on the envelope. Yes, I am 30 and still decorate my envelopes....in fact my Dad just recently told me that my Grandfather (who was also an artist) decorated his envelopes. So....the next time you write a letter, think about adding one of those doodles you draw when you are talking on the phone!
Elephant for Lia
Lia (whom is almost 3) sings a beautiful song about elephants.....so I made her an elephant. The pattern came from the book: "Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts" by Joelle Hoverson. Joelle Hoverson is also the owner of Purl Soho (www.purlsoho.com), this little hidden jewel for quilters! It is a small little whole in the wall, but is the most beautiful shop I have ever seen in NYC (which says a lot)! I get a smile on my face everytime I walk in, and I always find the perfect fabrics for my projects when I go there! They also carry one of the largest collections of Amy Butler fabrics (www.amybutlerdesign.com), whom is my favorite fabric designer!
